Julia Haworth, who played the character Claire Peacock on the popular TV show Coronation Street, departed from the series 15 years ago. After joining the cast in 2003 as a nanny for Joshua, the son of Ashley Peacock, she eventually became a pivotal member of the Peacock family on the show.
Throughout her time on Coronation Street, Julia’s character, Claire, faced various challenges, including a poignant battle with postnatal depression after giving birth to her son Freddie. Tragedy struck when Ashley, her on-screen husband, was killed in a dramatic storyline during the soap’s 50th-anniversary episode, known for the infamous tram crash.
In 2011, Julia bid farewell to her role as Claire on the show when her character left Weatherfield for France. This decision came after the show’s producers opted not to renew contracts for both Julia and Steven Arnold, who portrayed Ashley, citing the need for new creative directions for the characters.
Since her departure from Coronation Street, Julia has continued to pursue her acting career with success. She featured in various TV shows, including Doctors on the BBC from 2018 to 2019 and The Bay on ITV. Additionally, Julia appeared in American drama The Royals alongside Liz Hurley and had a role in the beloved BBC series Call the Midwife in its tenth season in 2021. More recently, she starred as Pamela Parks in the BBC series A Kind Of Spark.
Julia, who is married to accountant Jon Wormald, met her husband in 2003 and described it as love at first sight. The couple tied the knot in 2006 and welcomed their first daughter in 2008, followed by a second daughter in 2013. Apart from her acting endeavors, Julia also ventured into teaching, aiming to inspire and guide aspiring actors by sharing her industry experience and knowledge.
Coronation Street enthusiasts can catch the show airing on ITV1 and ITVX from Monday to Friday at 8:30 pm.
