Anthony Joshua has successfully met the weight requirement for his upcoming fight against Jake Paul, well ahead of schedule. The former two-time heavyweight champion has been out of action since his defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024, which led to a period of recovery due to minor injuries sustained during that bout.
After undergoing elbow surgery, Joshua wasted no time getting back into training. He is anticipated to have a relatively straightforward victory over the boxing novice Paul before a significant 2026 in the ring. The highly-anticipated professional heavyweight showdown between Joshua and Paul is scheduled for December 19 in Miami.
The bout will consist of eight three-minute rounds, with both fighters using 10oz gloves. While Paul transitions back to heavyweight following his solitary match against Mike Tyson, Joshua faced the challenge of meeting a weight limit of under 245lb for the clash.
Fans can watch the Joshua-Paul showdown live on Netflix on December 19, available for free with Sky’s £15 Essential TV bundle. Despite initial concerns about Joshua needing to shed 20lb, a recent social media video revealed his weight at 111kg (244.7Ib), indicating he is on track for the fight.
Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, affirmed the heavyweight’s commitment to the match and praised his excellent physical condition. A victory in this fight could set the stage for a significant 2026 for Joshua, potentially culminating in a showdown with Tyson Fury.
Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh hinted at exciting plans for Joshua’s future fights, including events in London and a major fight in September. The fight in Miami is set to commence at around 11pm local time, likely around 4am in the UK, with the event broadcast live on Netflix.
