Jos Verstappen miraculously escaped a serious car accident at the Rally of Wallonia on Sunday unscathed, despite his vehicle being severely damaged after colliding with a tree. Images from the scene depict Verstappen’s Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 overturned near foliage, with a wheel ripped off and extensive damage evident.
The father of four-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen, Jos participated in the rally alongside co-driver Jesper Vermeulen. Unfortunately, disaster struck as their car slid off the track and crashed into a nearby tree.
Thankfully, there were no major injuries in the accident, with Verstappen confirming that he is in good condition. The car had already sustained damage from an earlier incident during the fourth stage of the competition.
Despite the setback, Verstappen put up a remarkable performance, securing third place behind Adrian Fernemont and Maxime Potty by the end of Saturday’s races. However, he and Vermeulen had to withdraw following the collision on Sunday.
The Rally of Wallonia is known for its technical difficulties, taking place on challenging tarmac roads that are high-speed and winding with quick sections. This year, Verstappen competed without his regular co-driver Renaud Jamoul, who was recovering from ankle surgery.
With Max Verstappen facing uncertainty in F1, fans are eagerly awaiting the Miami Grand Prix as the race schedule has been disrupted due to the cancellation of events in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Max has expressed struggles adapting to the new FIA rules and regulations, criticizing the changes for diminishing the enjoyment of racing.
After a disappointing finish in Japan, Max voiced contemplation about his future in the sport, questioning whether the sacrifices for a lengthy racing season are worth it compared to spending time with family and friends. Sky has expanded its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle, offering more content including HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, and others along with extensive sports coverage.
