Iran Heightens Security Measures Amid US Airstrike Suspension

Iran has heightened its security measures following the suspension of US airstrikes due to concerns about their effectiveness. Leaders have reportedly gone into hiding, and security forces are on high alert in anticipation of further protests following President Trump’s warning of potential retaliation over allegations of planned executions of opposition members in Tehran.

It is believed that President Trump halted the mission out of fear that it might not achieve its intended goals of supporting the anti-government demonstrations. However, the option for a military strike remains on the table pending additional intelligence from within Iran.

A source from a Western security agency expressed doubts about the feasibility of pinpointing the right targets amid heavy surveillance in cities like Tehran. Emphasis was placed on the need to avoid civilian casualties to prevent the regime from using such incidents as propaganda against the protesters.

The UN Security Council convened an emergency meeting at the request of the United States to address the deadly protests in Iran. In response, Tehran made conciliatory statements to ease tensions after Trump’s threats to intervene to prevent further violence against demonstrators.

Reports indicated that Iran had refrained from executing individuals detained during the crackdown on nationwide protests. The death toll from the unrest exceeded 2,600, as confirmed by the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, marking one of the deadliest waves of protests in Iran in decades, reminiscent of the country’s 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Despite facing charges related to national security and anti-establishment activities, individuals detained in Iran were spared from execution. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi clarified that there were no plans to carry out death sentences in response to the protests.

President Trump’s warnings against Iran’s actions led to a positive outcome as the reported death sentences for the detainees, including Soltani, were lifted. He expressed satisfaction with this development and hoped for continued progress in the situation.

Following these events, Iran temporarily closed its airspace without explanation, triggering the evacuation of troops from US military bases in locations like Qatar. Israel heightened its alert status amid concerns of a potential attack and anticipated responses from Iranian forces and affiliated groups like Lebanese Hezbollah.

Concerned by the escalating repression of protests, foreign ministers from several countries, including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, the US, and the EU, expressed grave concerns and opposition to the Iranian authorities’ brutality against their citizens. Amid fears of regional conflict, major airlines, including Lufthansa, decided to adjust flight schedules for safety reasons in the Middle East.
