Nigel Farage has accused Donald Trump of violating international law in connection with attacks on Venezuela but suggested that there could be a positive outcome. The US president announced that Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were taken out of the country following sustained pressure from Washington. Explosions were reported in various parts of Caracas as troops moved into the capital, resulting in visible black smoke emanating from buildings in the early morning hours.
Reform UK leader, Farage, who claims a close friendship with President Trump, acknowledged the illegality of the strikes while speculating that they might serve as a deterrent to potential aggression from Russia and China. In a statement, he expressed hope for a fresh start for the Venezuelan people without Maduro’s leadership.
Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister confirmed that Britain had no involvement in the US operation in Venezuela. Keir Starmer expressed interest in speaking with President Trump to clarify the situation following the overnight mission that involved multiple explosions and low-flying aircraft over Caracas.
When asked if he had communicated with President Trump, Starmer confirmed that he had not yet spoken to him. He emphasized the importance of gathering all relevant information, noting that the UK was not part of the operation and was focused on the safety of British citizens in Venezuela.
Approximately 500 UK nationals are currently in Venezuela, and efforts are underway to ensure their safety. The Foreign Office has updated its travel advice, advising against all trips to the South American nation. British citizens in Venezuela are urged to stay informed, review departure options, and have a contingency plan in place for emergencies.
