Family of Missing Lincoln Student Mourns Body Discovery

The family of a missing university student expressed deep sorrow after a body was discovered in the water. Connor Calleja, 20, went missing after being turned away from a nightclub in Lincoln on January 11th. He was last spotted near University Bridge in Lincoln. Lincolnshire Police announced on Tuesday the recovery of a body in Brayford Pool.

In an emotional message, Connor’s stepfather, John Lewis, alongside his wife Lisa, shared their heartbreak and gratitude for the support received from the Lincoln community. Despite their devastation, they acknowledged the overwhelming kindness they had experienced. A video posted on Facebook captured John tearfully expressing their love for Connor and urging people to cherish their loved ones.

The family had made a public plea for Connor’s return, assuring him of their support by depositing money into his account. John Lewis emotionally reached out to Connor via direct message, urging him to come home and emphasizing that he had done nothing wrong.

Recounting the events leading to Connor’s disappearance, John mentioned that Connor was celebrating a friend’s birthday and was not believed to be intoxicated. The nightclub staff denied him entry, providing him with water and asking him to return later, before ultimately sending him away.

The police indicated that while formal identification was pending, they believed the recovered body to be that of Connor. The family was informed, and they are receiving support from trained officers. No suspicious circumstances were reported, and privacy for the family was requested during this difficult time.

The University of Lincoln expressed grief over the loss of Mr. Calleja, describing him as a cherished member of their community. They encouraged everyone to support each other during this tragic period and mentioned plans to honor Connor within the university community.

The students’ union also conveyed deep sadness at the news and offered support to students affected by the situation. They reminded students that they are not alone and encouraged seeking help if needed.
