Regina Brumley Kerr underwent several cosmetic surgeries simultaneously, including a tummy tuck, arm liposuction, and fat transfer. She encountered complications at a private clinic, leading to emergency transfer to a hospital for treatment. Tragically, Regina succumbed at Hospital Mexico in San Jose, Costa Rica, the following day, marking the third fatality from plastic surgery in the city that week.
As a teacher at the Siquirres Bilingual Experimental School and the Padre Roberto Evans Saunders Technical College, Regina was remembered fondly by colleagues and students. The school community expressed condolences and support for her family during this difficult time.
The autopsy results are awaited to determine the precise cause of Regina’s death. Her passing came in the wake of two other residents of San José losing their lives in similar circumstances. Cinthya Carvajal Guevara passed away after a procedure at a private clinic, while Ivannia Torres Cubillo died following a surgery at a different clinic. Investigations into both deaths are ongoing.
The College of Physicians emphasized the importance of verifying surgeons’ credentials before undergoing cosmetic procedures, underscoring the risks associated with surgeries both domestically and abroad.
