David Walliams is reportedly considering a significant move to Netflix. The 54-year-old Little Britain star is interested in bringing his comedy show, created with Matt Lucas and previously successful on BBC two decades ago, to the streaming platform due to the perceived lack of cancellation risks on Netflix.
Following allegations of harassment towards junior female staff members, which he denied, Walliams was dropped by his publisher, Harper Collins, last month. Consequently, the publishing company halted any new books from the actor, and book store Waterstones excluded David from its Children’s Book Festival lineup.
Additionally, The Children’s Trust removed Walliams as an ambassador, and the BBC disclosed no future collaborations with him, despite continuing to air a Christmas episode of Would I Lie To You? in which he participated. Despite these setbacks, Walliams expressed his desire for Little Britain to be accessible for viewers, even though the show was previously removed from the BBC due to controversial content until a revised version could be released.
During a Q&A session, Walliams indicated optimism for the sketch show’s future, mentioning its fan base from 2003 to 2006. When asked about the possibility of a comeback, he acknowledged the changing landscape and referenced comedians like Chris Rock and Ricky Gervais finding success on streaming platforms like Netflix.
Walliams, previously dismissed from Britain’s Got Talent for inappropriate remarks about contestants, faced a major career setback when Harper Collins terminated their association with him amidst misconduct allegations. Despite his successful ventures accumulating an estimated fortune of £17m, the actor denied any wrongdoing and emphasized his intention to seek legal counsel.
