For the past few weeks in Paris, there has been a daily occurrence outside the famous Royal Monceau hotel near the Arc de Triomphe. Crowds have been gathering, eagerly waiting for a glimpse of one of the world’s biggest superstars, Céline Dion.
Chanting her name, “Céline, Céline, Céline!” the excited crowds have witnessed Dion appearing in various outfits, waving, signing autographs, and sometimes even singing. The anticipation in the City of Light is palpable as Paris eagerly awaits the singer’s return to the stage for the start of her residency concerts, which many believed would never happen.
Léna Lutaud, a culture reporter for France’s oldest national newspaper Le Figaro, expressed astonishment at Céline Dion’s remarkable comeback in Paris, stating, “Paris is really a Céline Dion city right now.”
The city is buzzing with excitement, evident in the themed boat rides along the Seine, pre-concert parties, and grand karaoke gatherings dedicated to the iconic singer. Natacha Campana, founder of L’Écran Pop, emphasized the significance of Dion’s return, calling her “the queen” and highlighting the emotional connection fans have with her songs.
Céline Dion’s journey back to the stage has been a long and challenging one. After halting her Courage World Tour in March 2020, few anticipated the years-long hiatus and the shocking revelation of her diagnosis with a rare neurological disorder called stiff person syndrome.
In a heartfelt video message to her fans recorded in December 2022, Dion disclosed her health struggles but affirmed her determination to return. Despite the disorder’s challenges, she made a triumphant comeback, performing at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games atop the Eiffel Tower.
With the announcement of her residency concerts in Paris, beginning with 16 shows in September and October and followed by 10 more in May 2027 at the Plenitude Arena, Dion’s fans are eagerly anticipating her return to the stage. One such loyal fan, Estevam Peric, traveled from Montreal to Paris to attend his 100th Céline Dion concert, expressing his deep emotional connection to her music and the profound impact she has had on his life.
As the lead-up to her first concert unfolds, the excitement in Paris continues to build. Known for her longstanding relationship with France, both musically and sartorially, Céline Dion’s star power shines brightly, captivating fans with the promise of more unforgettable performances to come.
