“Bus Collision Incident Leaves Student Terrified”

A young female student feels fearful about taking the bus home after an unsettling encounter with a bus driver who reportedly shouted at her following a collision with a parked van, according to her mother.

The incident occurred on January 9 when an Arriva bus collided with a van at a bus stop near Lord Derby Academy in Huyton, Merseyside. The driver allegedly pointed the blame at 12-year-old Lyssa Storey, who had signaled the bus for a ride back home after school.

Lyssa’s mother, Kirsty Holland, expressed concern over her daughter’s well-being, stating that the experience has left Lyssa “terrified” of using the bus service to get home. As a result, Lyssa now takes a longer route, adding an extra half-hour to her commute, which worries her mother about the safety of her 12-year-old daughter.

The incident unfolded when Lyssa finished her classes early and attempted to catch the 2.55pm number nine bus to Liverpool from a nearby bus stop on Seel Road, as reported by the Liverpool Echo. With the bus stop occupied by a van and two cars, Lyssa had to stand on the road and signal for the bus to stop.

The bus arrived late at approximately 3.10pm and collided with the parked van upon arrival. Allegedly, the bus driver blamed Lyssa for the accident. Arriva has stated that they are investigating the incident, and the driver in question has been summoned for a meeting.

According to Ms. Holland, the bus driver yelled at Lyssa, attributing the crash to her actions. This confrontation has deeply affected Lyssa, making her reluctant to attend school due to the driver’s behavior, which Ms. Holland finds unacceptable.

An Arriva Merseyside spokesperson emphasized the company’s commitment to customer safety and well-being, acknowledging the incident and the concerns raised by the family. The driver involved has been called for a meeting, and a thorough investigation into the incident is underway.
