A British woman who disappeared from a sunbed on a beach in Greece has been found deceased by authorities, her husband disclosed in sorrowful revelation.
Michele Bourda, aged 59, went missing in the city of Kavala, Greece on August 1 while her husband Chris, aged 66, was asleep on Ofrynio beach. Reports indicate that her personal belongings were left on the beach, and upon awakening, Chris discovered she was missing. The couple, hailing from Glasgow, were vacationing for two weeks and had gone for a swim before resting on nearby sun loungers.
Chris shared that police officers located his wife’s body on a small, privately owned island named Fidonisi, approximately 40km from where she was last seen. The body, although yet to be formally identified, is believed to be Michele’s by authorities due to the tankini she was wearing when she vanished the previous month. Chris mentioned that her body was found decapitated, partially clothed, and partially consumed by fish. Police informed Mr. Bourda that they are “99% sure” it is her.
Chris conveyed to MailOnline, “They have found her body. Sadly I was expecting this. The problem is the harbour police did not start their search until late at night and I don’t know what effect that had. They said they couldn’t find her, they claimed she had disappeared with an unknown man, but this was rubbish.”
He criticized Greek Police for their delayed response, stating, “It shouldn’t take them three hours to write up a missing person’s report before starting the search.”
Recalling his last moments with Michele, Chris revealed she had seemed content the day before her disappearance. He mentioned her battles with depression and anxiety over the years but highlighted that she had been in good spirits recently.
Chris also expressed his frustration with the lack of police presence on the beach the day Michele went missing, a sentiment supported by another hotel guest.
Efforts to obtain comments from Greek police and the Foreign Office are ongoing.
