Anthony Joshua’s recent car accident in Nigeria has raised concerns about the severity of his injuries. The incident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when his black Lexus Jeep collided with a stationary red commercial Sinotruck. While Joshua sustained minor injuries and received treatment at a hospital, tragically, his friends Kevin Ayodele and Sina Ghami lost their lives in the crash.
The Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria provided initial findings stating that the accident involved two vehicles and resulted in the deaths of two individuals. Joshua was rescued with minor injuries, and the injured victim was taken for medical attention while the deceased were transported to the morgue for further procedures by the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division.
Despite initial reports of minor injuries, there are concerns that Joshua’s condition may be more serious than initially indicated. Sources close to the former heavyweight champion suggest potential rib and knee injuries. A video circulating on social media showed Ayodele playing table tennis with Joshua shortly before the tragic accident, emphasizing the sudden turn of events.
Following the accident, condolences poured in, with Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn leading the tributes to the departed friends. Matchroom Boxing also confirmed the passing of personal trainer Latz and strength and conditioning coach Ghami in a statement. Joshua remains in stable condition and is under observation at the hospital, with Matchroom Boxing requesting privacy for all affected parties during this difficult time.
