After a tragic car accident in Nigeria, Anthony Joshua has made a return to the boxing gym almost three weeks later. The incident occurred when the former two-time heavyweight world champion was involved in a collision between the Lexus SUV he was a passenger in and a stationary truck on a major expressway near Lagos, Nigeria. While Joshua sustained minor injuries, the tragic accident resulted in the loss of two close friends and teammates, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, whose funerals were held in London on January 4.
Joshua, who had recently defeated Jake Paul in a boxing match, was in Nigeria for a holiday and family visit at the time of the crash. Following a brief hospitalization, he was discharged on New Year’s Eve. Amid speculations about his future in boxing, Joshua shared images on Snapchat showcasing his return to training in the gym, describing it as a form of “mental strength therapy.” The snapshots depicted him engaged in various workouts, including hitting pads, lower leg exercises, stationary biking, and pool exercises.

Joshua’s uncle recently claimed that the boxer had expressed intentions of retiring post the car accident, stating that he had conveyed this decision privately to his family. However, despite reports suggesting his retirement, Mirror Fighting has learned that Joshua has not yet finalized his future plans in the sport.
The driver involved in the accident with Joshua has been charged with various offenses at the Sagamu Magistrate Court, including causing death by dangerous driving. Reports also revealed that Joshua narrowly escaped the tragic fate by switching seats with the driver before the collision occurred, prompting him to take time to process the incident and contemplate his next steps.
