“Alonso Mentors Young Racer Bortoleto to Success”

Fernando Alonso has been actively supporting Gabriel Bortoleto as a mentor since 2023 when Bortoleto joined Alonso’s A14 driver management group. Despite now being competitors on the track, Alonso has been generous in sharing his experiences and knowledge with Bortoleto, who is significantly younger at 20 years old.

During the Chinese Grand Prix weekend, Alonso and Bortoleto were spotted engaging in deep discussions on a walkway above the Shanghai paddock. According to a report by Motorsport.com, Alonso treats Bortoleto more as an apprentice rather than a direct rival, despite both racing for points.

Bortoleto, who was recruited from Kick Sauber, expressed gratitude for Alonso’s guidance, stating that the two-time world champion has been instrumental in helping him improve his on-track performance by managing off-track efforts effectively. Bortoleto acknowledged Alonso’s influence on him throughout his racing career and highlighted the unique opportunity of now racing against and being managed by him in Formula 1.

Although Bortoleto faced setbacks in the season opener in Australia, finishing 14th in China and 19th in the Japanese Grand Prix, Alonso has been supportive and willing to share his expertise with the rookie. While joking about Bortoleto letting him pass if needed, Alonso emphasized the pride A14 feels in their relationship with Bortoleto and the learning curve the young driver is going through in his debut F1 season.

Alonso expressed satisfaction in guiding Bortoleto, emphasizing the importance of practical advice in areas such as circuit familiarity, race weekend preparation, and energy management. He sees his role as helping Bortoleto perform at his best when he’s behind the wheel, focusing on the essential aspects of Formula 1. Alonso is committed to continuing to support Bortoleto’s development and success in the sport.
