The energy company is selecting 10 lucky British Gas customers who can reduce their energy consumption during the specified hour to receive this reward.
Earth Hour is a global initiative aimed at promoting environmental responsibility by encouraging individuals, businesses, and governments to reduce their ecological and carbon footprint. Participants are encouraged to switch off their lights for one hour to symbolize the importance of energy conservation.
Notable landmarks such as the London Eye and Sydney Opera House have previously participated in Earth Hour by turning off their lights. In the UK, this year’s Earth Hour will take place from 8:30pm to 9:30pm.
British Gas’s Peak Save program incentivizes customers to lower their electricity usage during peak times by offering discounts on their bills. By shifting energy-intensive activities to off-peak hours, customers can save money and contribute to a more sustainable energy grid. Additionally, British Gas provides the “Peak Save Sundays” promotion, offering half-price electricity from 11am to 4pm automatically to customers.
Customers can sign up for the Peak Save scheme on the British Gas website, where they can enter their details and potentially receive credits for their energy savings. The program requires a functioning smart meter that can provide half-hourly readings for accurate tracking of energy usage.
British Gas introduced the Peak Save events in December 2022, with over 800,000 participants saving more than £20 million to date. Joining the Peak Save scheme not only benefits customers financially but also contributes to a greener and more sustainable energy future.
