British Father and Son Drown at Great Barrier Reef

Two British travelers, identified as Robin and Owen Reed, tragically drowned while swimming at a beach close to the Great Barrier Reef. Robin, aged 46, and Owen, aged 17, hailing from Caerphilly County in South Wales, ventured into the water without lifeguards present in Seventeen Seventy town in Queensland, Australia, on April 13th.

Following the incident, a police helicopter retrieved them from the water, while a third individual from Australia was airlifted to a hospital due to severe head injuries. The Coroner’s Court of Queensland confirmed the report of the two deaths and stated that coronial investigations are currently in their preliminary phases.

A spokeswoman for the Coroner’s Court of Queensland mentioned, “The deaths of Mr. Robin Reed and his son, Owen, have been reported to the Coroners Court of Queensland. As the coronial investigations are in their initial stages, no additional information can be disclosed at this time.”

In a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, Treowen Stars FC, a football club situated in the Newbridge area of Caerphilly, expressed their condolences, stating, “Awful, awful news about Robin Reed and his son Owen. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Robin and Owen’s family and friends. Robin was a cherished companion to many at Treowen and his presence will be dearly missed. May they both rest in peace.”
