“Fed Court Orders Release of Hidden Nazi War Criminal Study”

The Federal Court has mandated the unveiling of previously hidden sections of a study from September 1986 commissioned for a significant federal inquiry into war crimes. Federal Court Justice Simon Fothergill, in a recent public announcement, directed the government to reveal previously censored segments of the study concerning the relocation of suspected Nazi war criminals in Canada post-World War II.

B’nai Brith Canada has persistently advocated for the disclosure of more details from the research conducted by Alti Rodal. In February 2024, Library and Archives Canada disclosed additional parts of the report following a request for access to information from B’nai Brith. However, Library and Archives still withheld certain sections, including those addressing the involvement of American intelligence agencies in aiding the settlement of Nazi collaborators in Canada.

In his judgment, Fothergill dismissed the government’s argument that releasing specific additional information could negatively impact Canada’s international relationships.
