Prince George RCMP have officially stated that an individual has passed away following an emergency landing of an aircraft on Foothills Boulevard, approximately 1.5 kilometers north of North Nechako Road. The RCMP confirmed that two motor vehicles were part of the incident. A statement from the RCMP expressed sadness over the fatality of one person in the occurrence, while the condition of the other vehicle occupants and those on the plane remains unknown.
Authorities have advised the public to steer clear of the area, with Foothills Boulevard shut down to traffic in both directions overnight and into the next day. The Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation, as emergency services responded to a section of northern Prince George where a small plane made an emergency landing on a busy roadway near Highland Drive.
B.C. Emergency Health Services dispatched resources to the scene, attending to 10 patients, with two individuals transported to the hospital in stable condition. Eyewitness Mohit Arora described the plane landing incident, noting a pickup truck being hit by the aircraft’s wing and the fortunate escape of his own vehicle from the propeller’s impact.
RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Cooper mentioned the involvement of two cars in the incident, emphasizing the unexpected nature of the event that limited drivers’ ability to react swiftly. Images captured at the scene displayed a damaged aircraft with a broken propeller, a yellow car on the roadside, and a pickup truck with aircraft debris lodged in its windshield.
The Transportation Safety Board identified the aircraft as a Beech King Air 200 and dispatched a team to investigate the incident. Authorities urged people to avoid the area due to road closures for an extended period.
