“Alberta Faces Critical Decision: Stay or Separate?”

Only two months are left until Albertans make decisions on 10 key issues that could have a profound impact on the province’s future. While nine questions focus on matters like immigration and constitutional reform, it is the 10th question that is generating significant interest – whether Alberta should continue as part of Canada or proceed with a second referendum on separation.

With the clock ticking, both sides are working hard to sway public opinion as time is running out. Longtime pollster Janet Brown notes that support for separatism has consistently lagged behind those in favor of remaining in Canada. She emphasizes that the referendum campaign is now more about mobilization rather than persuasion, with voter turnout playing a crucial role in the outcome.

Various groups are actively engaging in the debate, each with its own strategies and approaches. Here’s a glimpse into how four of these groups plan to navigate the next phase of the campaign.

**Let Alberta Decide:**
The pro-independence group, Let Alberta Decide, led by Keith Wilson, is gearing up for a major rally at the Alberta Legislature on Oct. 17, just before the referendum. They are focusing on rallying support in both urban and rural areas, tailoring their messaging on social media to appeal to different demographics.

**Forever Canadian:**
The Forever Canadian campaign, spearheaded by Thomas Lukaszuk, is maintaining a strong presence across Alberta, with plans for large rallies and continued distribution of campaign materials. The group’s primary focus remains on boosting Canadian pride and unity.

**Alberta Prosperity Project/Stay Free Alberta:**
The Alberta Prosperity Project, led by Mitch Sylvestre, is intensifying efforts to maximize advance polls and holding town halls to encourage voter turnout. The group aims to mobilize its supporters and strengthen community engagement in the lead-up to the referendum.

**Alberta’s Voice:**
Alberta’s Voice, under the leadership of Stephen Carter, is emphasizing fundraising efforts to support an advertising campaign promoting unity. The group is targeting undecided voters and aiming for a significant majority in favor of staying in Canada on referendum day.

As the referendum approaches, these groups are actively working to shape public opinion and ensure that their voices are heard. With the deadline for special ballot packages rapidly approaching, residents are also being encouraged to consider alternative voting options.
