Provincial authorities have reported the discovery of a third set of human remains at a location close to Smiths Falls in eastern Ontario. The recently identified remains belong to Lawrence Bertrim, who was last seen in downtown Smiths Falls in September 2022. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are still investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, and as of now, no charges have been filed. A reward of $50,000 remains available for any information leading to a conviction in connection to his case, according to police officials.
At the time of his disappearance, Bertrim was 42 years old. Detective Inspector Jennifer Patton from the OPP mentioned in a press release that finding Lawrence Bertrim is a significant development for his family, who have been awaiting answers for nearly four years, as well as for the investigative team who have been diligently working on this case. The public has shown keen interest in the discovery of three missing individuals on the same property, and authorities have requested patience as the investigation continues.
The remains of Lawrence Bertrim were recovered on August 6 at the Kelly Jordan Road property, a day after the discovery of another missing man, Robert Lambert, on the same premises in July. Although no charges have been brought forth in Lambert’s case, authorities had expressed suspicions of foul play at the time of the discovery.
Robbie Thomson’s remains were also found on the same residential property in October 2025. Four individuals have been charged in connection with Thomson’s death, including three suspects facing charges of first-degree murder.
Reports from CBC News in 2023 revealed that Bertrim and Thomson were acquainted with each other. The duo was also believed to have known Steven Tate, whose body was found in a ditch along Highway 15 in November 2023. The deaths of Tate, Bertrim, and Thomson had a significant impact on the Smiths Falls area, with the discoveries of the initial two sets of remains deeply affecting the local community and surrounding rural regions, according to statements from the local reeve.
