At the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards held on Monday night, the gritty medical drama “The Pitt,” starring Noah Wyle, secured top honors by winning best drama series and best lead actor for Wyle. With 25 nominations, the HBO show was the leading contender of the night.
However, Apple TV’s comedy-horror series, “Widow’s Bay,” emerged as the standout winner, clinching the coveted best comedy series award along with multiple other accolades, including best lead actor in a comedy series, best supporting actor and actress in a comedy series, and outstanding writing and directing in a comedy series. The show won a total of 14 Emmys out of 19 nominations.
Another successful Apple TV production, the post-apocalyptic series “Pluribus,” also received recognition with a couple of awards from its 18 nominations, including best lead actress in a drama and outstanding writing.
On the other hand, HBO’s dark comedy “DTF St. Louis” achieved several wins, including best limited series.
Actor and philanthropist Michael J. Fox, aged 65, was honored with the prestigious Bob Hope Humanitarian Award for his contributions to Parkinson’s disease research by the Television Academy board.
The marquee event was hosted by Mariska Hargitay of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” Notably, Hargitay had already won Emmys for the documentary “My Mom Jayne” during the Creative Arts Emmys held on September 5 and 6.
