The day following the elimination of the Montreal Roses from the W Canadian Championship, the team made the decision to relieve their first head coach, Robert Rositoiu, from his duties. Marinette Pichon, the club’s sporting director, announced this development on Thursday morning through a press release, expressing gratitude to Rositoiu for establishing the foundation of the professional women’s soccer club during its early stages.
Parting ways with a coach is a difficult choice, as mentioned in the statement, which also highlights the respect held for Rositoiu both personally and professionally. The club believes that introducing new energy is necessary to address the remaining part of the season and propel the club towards further growth.
Currently, the Roses are in second place in the Northern Super League (NSL) with 27 points, and they have 10 matches remaining in the regular season. Rositoiu took on the role of head coach in September 2024 in preparation for the team’s debut season in the NSL in 2025.
In the interim, Maryse Bard-Martel, the team’s former first assistant coach and head of goalkeeping, will step in as the temporary head coach while the club searches for a permanent replacement for Rositoiu. Bard-Martel will be in charge for the upcoming game against AFC Toronto on Sunday.
