“Vancouver Rise Bolsters Squad with Key Defender Signings”

The Vancouver Rise has received reinforcements as they gear up for a crucial match against the Halifax Tides. The Northern Super League team recently signed two defenders to strengthen their squad.

Chantelle Swaby, who previously played for Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, formerly with NSL side AFC Toronto, have joined the Rise. Head coach Anja Heiner-Moller expressed optimism about the new additions, noting that both players bring valuable skills that will benefit the team’s playoff ambitions.

Swaby, aged 28, brings a wealth of experience from playing in various leagues, including the National Women’s Soccer League, the Scottish Women’s Premier League, and France’s top division. Known for her composure in high-pressure situations, Swaby emphasized her role in providing stability and leadership to the team’s defense.

Hansen, aged 26, is excited to return to her hometown of Burnaby, B.C., and play in front of a familiar crowd. The defender highlighted the significance of being close to her family once again, describing it as a special moment in her career.

The Rise’s recent acquisitions come after the departure of Mariah Lee, who retired last month to pursue a legal education in New York. In addition, goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan was loaned to the Halifax Tides for the remainder of the season.

With a playoff spot in sight, Vancouver (5-9-1) aims to close the gap on Halifax (6-6-3) and secure a postseason berth. Forward Jessica De Fillippo emphasized the team’s determination to return to the playoffs and showcase their competitiveness to fans and the league.

As the season enters a critical phase, the Rise is focused on making a strong push towards the playoffs to build on last year’s success.
