Kemi Badenoch fiercely criticized former Conservative members who recently switched to Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party. In a harsh address, Badenoch accused the defectors of exhibiting a “temper tantrum disguised as political action.” She specifically targeted individuals like Nadhim Zahawi, Robert Jenrick, Andrew Rosindell, and Suella Braverman, who all made the move this month.
Taking a jab at Jenrick, who previously held the position of Shadow Justice Secretary before being dismissed by Badenoch, she expressed regret that he didn’t win the Tory leadership race. Badenoch also extended apologies to Zahawi for not being appointed to the House of Lords and to others who didn’t secure positions in the shadow cabinet, indirectly referencing Braverman and Rosindell.
During a speech in central London, Badenoch emphasized her commitment to revitalizing and reconstructing the Conservative party, emphasizing that only dedicated Conservatives are welcomed. She declined to apologize to those defecting, emphasizing that they are failing to offer solutions for the country and simply engaging in political theatrics.
Badenoch concluded by likening the defectors’ actions to a child’s tantrum, stating that such behavior would be detrimental if allowed to influence the government. Meanwhile, former Home Secretary Braverman recently joined Reform UK as its eighth MP, following the footsteps of Jenrick and Rosindell. Zahawi had previously switched sides earlier in the month.
In response, a Labour Party spokesperson dismissed the Tories as a party in decline, criticizing Badenoch for failing to acknowledge the damage caused during their time in government. The spokesperson emphasized that the public would not trust the Conservatives to address issues they themselves had created, labeling them as insincere and preoccupied with internal party matters.
