“Hearn Dynasty Hits £1B: Sports Media Milestone”

Barry and Eddie Hearn have exceeded the £1 billion milestone with their sports media enterprise. The father-son duo are the owners of Matchroom Sports, which operates in the realms of boxing, snooker, and darts.

Barry first ventured into snooker during the 1970s, representing the six-time world champion Steve Davis. The 77-year-old established Matchroom in 1982, and his 46-year-old son, Eddie, has played a pivotal role in expanding the empire, notably gaining recognition in the boxing world.

Matchroom has managed renowned names like Frank Bruno, Chris Eubank Sr, and Lennox Lewis, and is currently prominently associated with Anthony Joshua. Barry also serves as the chairman of the Professional Darts Corporation, contributing to the surge in darts’ popularity. Additionally, he holds significant influence in snooker after acquiring the World Snooker Tour in 2010.

Their efforts have propelled them to great wealth, landing them the third spot on The Sunday Times rich list for UK sports personalities, with a combined net worth of £1.035 billion. They rank behind only F1 magnate Bernie Ecclestone (£2bn) and David and Victoria Beckham (£1.185bn).

Surpassing the likes of F1 driver Sir Lewis Hamilton, who holds the fifth spot with £435 million, are Matchroom’s most notable client, Joshua, at eighth with an estimated wealth of £240 million, followed by Tyson Fury in ninth with £162 million. England captain Harry Kane and tennis legend Sir Andy Murray share the tenth position, each valued at £110 million.

While Barry laid the foundation for the Matchroom empire, Eddie has significantly contributed to its growth. In a 2020 piece for the Big Issue, Eddie expressed how his father’s legacy has driven him to excel and surpass his achievements. Their competitive spirit and drive for success have been key factors in their journey.
