Norway’s Crown Princess’s son, Marius Borg Høiby, faces new charges just before his upcoming trial. Høiby, charged with 32 offenses including rape, violence, and traffic violations, now faces six additional charges. One of the new charges alleges his involvement in transporting over 3.5 kilograms of marijuana in Norway in July 2020.
The new charges also include two violations of a restraining order and three Traffic Act offenses. His trial is scheduled to commence on February 3 in Oslo and is expected to continue until mid-March.
In December, Marius’s family, previously silent on the matter, openly discussed the impending court case’s impact. Crown Princess Mette-Marit, along with her family members, expressed their thoughts on the accusations against Marius. Mette-Marit denied allegations of tipping off her son about his arrest and expressed the family’s deep concern over the seriousness of the charges.
The Crown Princess highlighted their efforts to seek professional help for Marius and emphasized the importance of addressing the matter through the legal system. King Harald also commented, expressing empathy for those affected by the situation.
State Attorney Sturla Henriksbø stressed the severity of the case, stating that royal status should not grant special treatment. If convicted, Marius, 29, could face up to 10 years in prison.
The family reiterated their stance on awaiting legal proceedings before commenting on the case. They emphasized the importance of letting the legal system handle the matter appropriately.
