The USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier has reportedly approached Iran, described as being within a close range for potential military action amid escalating tensions between the nations.
President Donald Trump recently mentioned the deployment of a US naval group towards Iran, emphasizing a message of readiness but expressing hope for peaceful resolution. The carrier, which departed San Diego late last year, had been stationed in the South China Sea until its recent relocation near Iran, according to Israel’s Channel 13.
In addition to the aircraft carrier, guided-missile destroyers, submarines armed with Tomahawk missiles, and reinforced air defense, including F-15 fighter jets at various US bases in the region, are actively operating in the area, as confirmed by a US official.
US officials clarified that the strategic military movements are primarily aimed at safeguarding American personnel in the region in response to heightened tensions, while maintaining the capability for necessary military intervention if circumstances demand.
Reports from Iran suggest that the country’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has taken security precautions by relocating to a secure underground facility in Tehran. Furthermore, Mohammad Pakpour, the commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, issued a warning to the US and Israel to avoid misjudgments and emphasized the readiness of Iranian forces to act swiftly upon directives.
Recent statistics from the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) revealed a significant death toll of over 5,459 individuals in Iran’s recent crackdown on protests, with an additional 17,031 deaths under investigation.
President Trump, who had previously voiced strong reactions to the violent incidents in Iran, indicated a shift in approach a week ago, mentioning the suspension of planned executions in Iran as a contributing factor.
While protests have reportedly subsided, challenges in accessing accurate information persist due to an ongoing internet blackout in the region.
