UK Declines Trump’s Peace Board Over Putin: Concerns Raised

The United Kingdom has decided not to participate in Donald Trump’s Board of Peace due to the invitation extended to Vladimir Putin. Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper expressed concerns about Putin’s involvement in the US President’s initiative to resolve the Israel-Hamas conflict, which includes a signing ceremony scheduled for today.

Cooper stated during an interview on BBC Breakfast that the UK will not be signing the legal treaty today, citing broader concerns and doubts about Putin’s commitment to peace in Ukraine. She emphasized the importance of addressing these crucial issues.

Despite this decision, the UK fully supports Trump’s 20-point peace plan for the Middle East. There are apprehensions regarding the inclusion of Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, raising worries about the influence of dictators and authoritarian figures on the region’s future.

Trump aims to present his proposals at the World Economic Forum in Davos, highlighting his efforts for peace. The Kremlin is evaluating the invitation to join the board, while Trump mentioned that Putin has accepted the offer.

Number 10 Downing Street had previously expressed reservations about Putin’s potential membership. The Russian government is currently consulting with its strategic partners before committing to the plan.

Several countries, including the UAE, Bahrain, Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Morocco, and Vietnam, have already signed up for the initiative. France recently announced its decision not to participate, leading Trump to threaten imposing tariffs on French goods.
