Elon Musk made a humorous remark about Donald Trump’s newly established Board of Peace during his appearance at the Davos event today.
This appearance at Davos signifies a change for the billionaire, who had previously expressed disapproval of the World Economic Forum gathering in Switzerland. Musk engaged in a conversation with Laurence Fink, the CEO of BlackRock and interim co-chair of the forum.
In a playful manner, Musk suggested that Trump’s board should be called “piece” instead of “peace,” mentioning the idea of acquiring small “pieces” of Greenland and Venezuela.
During the event, Musk quipped, “We’re gonna make this interesting,” as he subtly poked fun at the US President’s Peace Summit initiative. Trump had introduced the Board of Peace to oversee the ceasefire in Israel’s conflict with Hamas, envisioning it as a potential rival to the United Nations, despite some US allies opting out of participation.
Initially conceived as a small group of leaders managing the ceasefire, the peace board has evolved into a more ambitious entity, drawing skepticism about its composition and objectives, leading some close US allies to decline involvement.
The UK, for instance, expressed hesitance to join the Board of Peace due to concerns over potential Russian influence. Trump, however, remained undeterred by the absence of some nations, claiming that 59 countries had endorsed the board, although only 19 countries and the US were present at the event.
Known for his past support of Trump, Musk previously led the Department of Government Efficiency, which faced criticism for failing to meet its goals. Following his departure from the role, Musk’s relationship with the president soured.
Musk’s appearance at Davos follows his social media commentary in 2023, where he humorously criticized the elite gathering’s seriousness. He described the WEF as an unelected global authority that the public did not ask for or desire, contrasting with the WEF’s statement that Musk was not invited to the event.
Additionally, Musk is currently engaged in a public disagreement with Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary over the installation of Starlink systems on Ryanair planes, with O’Leary dismissing Musk’s suggestion of purchasing the airline.
