“Defence Secretary Questions Farage’s Loyalty”

In a recent statement, Defence Secretary John Healey expressed his lack of trust in Nigel Farage regarding Britain’s national security. This remark follows Farage’s opposition to government plans involving UK troops in Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement. Healey criticized Farage for not supporting British troops and for his admiration of President Putin, accusing him of leading a party with pro-Russian sentiments. He referenced the conviction of Reform UK’s former leader in Wales for accepting Russian bribes and highlighted Farage’s past comments praising Putin’s strategic moves in Syria.

Contrary to the government’s stance on supporting Ukraine, Farage indicated his dissent towards the proposed military involvement, questioning the feasibility and sustainability of the mission. He emphasized the limitations of the British Army and the need to prioritize NATO airspace defense against Russian aggression. He reiterated that any peace settlement should not validate Putin’s actions.

Looking ahead to 2026, Healey expressed hope for continued international support for Ukraine and emphasized the importance of holding Putin accountable for his actions to achieve lasting peace. He acknowledged the increasing global threats posed by Putin’s actions, including naval presence near Western waters, airspace violations, and cyber attacks. Despite differing viewpoints, both sides underscored the significance of safeguarding Ukraine and standing united against external threats.

A spokesperson for Reform UK defended Farage’s position, highlighting the need for security assurances for Ukraine while criticizing Labour’s alleged failure to deliver on defense commitments. The party reaffirmed its commitment to defending NATO airspace and stressed the importance of not allowing any peace agreement to empower Putin.
