“US Airstrikes Eliminate Al-Qaeda Leader in Syria”

A senior member of the extremist group al-Qaeda was eliminated in US airstrikes in Syria following an attack by ISIS that resulted in the deaths of three American individuals.

Identified as Bilal Hasan al-Jasim, the Pentagon described him as a seasoned terrorist leader who was actively planning attacks against the United States. Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of US Central Command, emphasized the commitment to pursuing terrorists targeting American citizens and military personnel, stating that there will be no refuge for those involved in such acts.

The strike, carried out by US Central Command on January 16, successfully targeted and killed Al-Jasim, who was directly linked to the ISIS operative responsible for the fatal attack on US service members in Palmyra, Syria, on December 13.

Referred to as “Hawkeye Strike,” the large-scale operation launched by CENTCOM in response to the December attack resulted in the destruction of over 100 ISIS infrastructure and weapon sites using more than 200 precision munitions. Moreover, the operation led to the capture of more than 300 ISIS militants and the elimination of over 20 others across Syria over the past year, enhancing US and regional security.

Additionally, the Trump administration authorized military strikes on December 19 to eradicate Islamic State fighters and weapon facilities in Syria. President Trump issued a stern warning on social media, emphasizing the severe consequences for any individual or group threatening or attacking the United States.

Described as a significant offensive, the operation targeted 70 locations in central Syria known to harbor IS infrastructure and weaponry. US officials hinted at more strikes to come in the future as part of their continued efforts against terrorism.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth echoed the sentiment of unwavering defense against threats to Americans under the leadership of President Trump. Despite the ongoing military actions in Syria, the US government has expressed intentions to refocus its efforts in the Western Hemisphere, particularly in regions like Venezuela and the Caribbean, by reallocating resources and deploying advanced naval assets.
