Samsung TV owners in the UK are set to receive a significant free update, providing access to a variety of bonus content. UKTV has officially announced that its popular free-to-air linear channels will soon be accessible on Samsung screens, allowing UK viewers to enjoy content without the need for extra devices for the first time.
The channels will be streamed over the internet, eliminating the requirement for a traditional aerial setup. Samsung will introduce a dedicated section on its home screen to showcase content from the U streaming service, making it easier for users to discover classic comedies, dramas, and factual programs without navigating through menus or settings.
In the upcoming months, channels such as U&DRAMA, U&Dave, U&Yesterday, U&W, and U&Eden will be accessible through a direct link from Samsung’s Universal Guide to the U app. Samsung estimates that the update will reach millions of its TVs, with the channels appearing in the platform’s ‘Live’ tab and Universal Guide, ensuring that UKTV’s live and on-demand content remains prominently featured for viewers who primarily utilize internet-based TV services.
Jonathan Newman, General Manager of Commercial at UKTV and BBC Studios UK and Ireland, expressed confidence in the strengthened partnership with Samsung, emphasizing the enhanced accessibility of the U app for Samsung customers and the continued visibility of UKTV’s diverse content offerings.
Dan Harvie, Vice President of Home Entertainment and Appliances at Samsung UK and Ireland, highlighted the significant role of UKTV in enriching the entertainment options available on Samsung TVs. He underscored Samsung’s commitment to enhancing the entertainment experience for customers by providing access to a wide array of broadcast content through collaborations like the one with UKTV.
As the leading TV brand globally for two decades, Samsung remains dedicated to innovation that enhances the viewing experience. The partnership with UKTV underscores Samsung’s commitment to offering a comprehensive entertainment ecosystem, integrating UKTV’s content with services like Samsung TV Plus and built-in broadcast app access.
Although an exact release date has not been disclosed, the new features are anticipated to roll out on Samsung TVs in the near future.
