WhatsApp is set to introduce a significant update aimed at providing relief to parents. This forthcoming feature will empower adults to implement specific controls on devices, preventing pre-teens from accessing particular functionalities or participating in group chats without authorization.
Furthermore, parents or guardians will have the ability to determine who can interact with the account, ensuring that strangers cannot initiate conversations unexpectedly.
Moreover, parents will be able to review message requests from unknown contacts and manage the account’s privacy settings.
According to WhatsApp, the platform is favored by families for its simplicity, privacy, and reliability. The company stated, “With insights from families and experts, we are introducing new parent-managed accounts that enable parents or guardians to establish WhatsApp for pre-teens, incorporating new controls to limit their usage to messaging and calling.”
The process involves parents linking their accounts with the device they have provided to their family member, alongside their own device. Once configured, these accounts will be under the control of the parent or guardian.
Exclusive access to and modification of privacy settings will be granted only to parents, empowering them to customize their family’s interaction on the platform.
Additionally, all personal conversations will remain confidential and secure due to end-to-end encryption, guaranteeing that no one, not even WhatsApp, can access or listen to them.
WhatsApp has announced that the update will be gradually implemented over the next few months.
“We are excited to receive your feedback as we progressively introduce parent-managed accounts, aiming to enhance WhatsApp as the safest and most private means for families to communicate.”
