“UK Stands Firm Against Annexation Threat to Greenland”

The Foreign Secretary of the UK emphasized that the fate of Greenland lies solely in the hands of Greenlanders and Danes, with no external interference warranted. Yvette Cooper delivered this message in Parliament, expressing concerns about potential annexation of Greenland by Donald Trump, who has hinted at national security interests in the Danish territory.

Reiterating that Greenland is a part of the Kingdom of Denmark, Cooper stressed the importance of collaboration among European partners, NATO allies, and other nations on security matters. She emphasized that decisions concerning Greenland should be made by Greenlanders and Danes exclusively.

Supporting Denmark’s stance, UK politician Keir Starmer affirmed solidarity with Denmark and rejected any claims by the US President on Greenland. Stressing the significance of Denmark as a European ally and a NATO member, Starmer emphasized the need for Greenland’s future to be determined by the Kingdom of Denmark and Greenland alone.

Former Tory Chancellor Jeremy Hunt cautioned that annexing Greenland could severely strain the NATO alliance. He warned against disregarding the sovereignty of a NATO member, highlighting the potential consequences such actions could have on the alliance’s unity.

Addressing the situation in Venezuela, Starmer advocated for a peaceful transition to democracy in the country. Referring to Maduro as illegitimate, he emphasized the importance of democratic values and expressed support for a democratic Venezuela.

As discussions unfolded regarding the US military operation in Venezuela, concerns were raised about international law implications. Cooper underscored the need for the US to clarify its legal position on the matter.

Downing Street underscored the priority of ensuring the safety of British nationals in Venezuela. British citizens were advised to remain in secure locations and review departure options, with the government taking necessary steps to support their safety.
