Another individual was wounded by ICE, causing further distress in Minneapolis, with swift attempts made by the government to shift blame onto Joe Biden.
Recent reports detailed an incident where a man was shot in the leg by an ICE agent in the northern part of the city, shortly after Renee Good, a mother of three, was fatally shot in the head. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated that the man tried to evade a targeted traffic stop, resulting in a car crash and a subsequent attempt to escape on foot. According to the government, two individuals allegedly approached the ICE agent with a snow shovel and a broom handle, leading to the agent shooting one of them in the leg out of fear for his safety.
The DHS, under the leadership of Trump ally Kristi Noem, managed to criticize the former President, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, in an effort to shift responsibility for the unrest in the city elsewhere.
Quoting the DHS statement following the incident, it began by stating: “At 6:50 PM CT, federal law enforcement officers were conducting a targeted traffic stop in Minneapolis of an illegal alien from Venezuela who was released into the country by Joe Biden in 2022.”
Mentioning Biden’s name came as a surprise, and the continuous efforts by Trump to implicate the ex-President, who has been out of politics for a year, have been cringe-worthy.
Unsurprisingly, supporters of Trump managed to divert attention from the ICE-related tragedies in Minneapolis by incorporating political attacks into the narrative.
The Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, and the Mayor, Jacob Frey, both Democrats, also faced criticism from the Trump administration after two federal agents resorted to using firearms in Minneapolis.
According to the DHS statement, “This attack on another brave member of law enforcement took place while Minnesota’s top leaders, Governor Walz and Mayor Frey, are actively encouraging an organized resistance to ICE and federal law enforcement officers.
“Their hateful rhetoric and resistance against men and women who are simply trying to do their jobs must end. Federal law enforcement officers are facing a 1,300% increase in assaults against them as they put their lives on the line to arrest criminals and lawbreakers.”
Even the US Deputy Attorney General, Todd Blanche, characterized the leadership of the governor and mayor as “terrorism.” In a provocative statement focusing on the two Democrat leaders rather than the ICE agents involved in the shootings, he stated: “ICE operates in thousands of counties without incident. Men and women doing their jobs, protecting us from criminal aliens.
“Minnesota insurrection is a direct result of a FAILED governor and a TERRIBLE mayor encouraging violence against law enforcement. It’s disgusting. Walz and Frey – I’m focused on stopping YOU from your terrorism by whatever means necessary. This is not a threat. It’s a promise.”
Mayor Frey stood up against pressure from Washington and criticized ICE, alleging that the agency was causing turmoil across Minnesota. Local residents are clearly frustrated and fearful of the increasing presence of ICE agents in their city, with the Trump administration indicating an addition of around 3,000 officers in recent weeks.
Protests erupted following the tragic death of Renee Good after she was shot and killed after dropping her son off at school. Trump and his supporters labeled her a “domestic terrorist” in a reprehensible attack on a deceased individual, with JD Vance even suggesting that the incident was “a tragedy of her own making.”
While claims were made that the mother attempted to harm ICE agent Renee Good in an unprovoked manner, bodycam footage released two days later raised doubts about many of those assertions.
Subsequent protests after the recent shooting saw federal agents deploying tear gas and pepper balls against locals who have grown tired of their city being overrun by groups of immigration agents concealing their identities as they detain and shoot individuals.
The aggressive response to protesters and the blatant efforts to shift blame onto Joe Biden highlight how Trump and his allies continue to politicize a tragic event and the ongoing distress in the afflicted city.
