McDonald’s Loyalty Program Points Requirement Increases

McDonald’s enthusiasts are expressing their frustration following the announcement of a significant alteration to the loyalty program. The popular fast-food chain is set to raise the required points for redeeming free items through MyMcDonald’s Rewards.

Currently, customers need 5,500 points to claim items like a Big Mac, Double Fillet of Fish, Double Sausage and Egg McMuffin, and Nine Chicken Nuggets. However, starting March 17, the points needed for these items will increase to 6,500 points, with customers earning 100 points for every £1 spent at McDonald’s.

For items such as a Medium Coffee or Small Fries, the current requirement of 1,500 points will rise to 2,000 points. Moreover, the points threshold for obtaining a regular McFlurry or an Apple Pie will go up from 2,500 points to 3,500 points. To redeem a Double Cheeseburger or a McChicken sandwich, customers will need 5,000 points, up from 4,000 points.

In response to the changes, one social media user expressed discontent, while another inquired about the start date to cash in their points. A McDonald’s spokesperson explained that the adjustments to the loyalty scheme are a response to increasing food and supply costs.

The spokesperson highlighted the introduction of new redemption options, including Chicken Selects, Cheese sides, and a new Sausage Sandwich, to provide customers with more choices. These modifications coincide with the launch of McDonald’s new menu, featuring innovative items like the Surf N’ Turf burger and the Chicken Cheeseburger, along with additions like the Espresso Milkshake and Chilli Cheese Bites.
