“Sky Q Shifts Focus to Internet-Based Products”

Sky Q, known for its exceptional features, is a top-tier set-top box highly regarded in the industry. While it offers functions like live TV recording, access to premium channels, and popular streaming apps such as Disney+ and Netflix, Sky is now shifting focus towards internet-based products like the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV. This move signals a potential shift away from the traditional satellite-powered platform, paving the way for new competitors to emerge.

Humax has introduced the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a device that closely resembles the key features of Sky Q. Similar to Sky’s flagship box, the Aura EZ includes a spacious 2TB hard drive for storing extensive content like TV shows, movies, and sports events. With physical recording options becoming scarce, the inclusion of internal storage in this new device is a significant development.

Notably, the Aura EZ is powered by Freely, allowing users to watch live TV over broadband. Developed by the creators of Freeview, Freely delivers over 60 live channels and a vast library of on-demand programs. This feature enables easy relocation of the box between rooms, simplifies installation, and ensures regular feature updates.

Other highlights of the Aura EZ include 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and a built-in TV guide showcasing current and upcoming programs. Users can conveniently manage the box remotely through the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, enabling them to browse schedules and handle recordings from anywhere.

Although Freely may not offer the same premium sports and movie content as Sky, it stands out as a free-to-use platform without any subscription fees.

The Humax Aura EZ is scheduled to launch in the UK in February 2026 at a recommended retail price of £249.

In related news, Sky has unveiled a new subscription bundle that combines major streaming services at a reduced monthly rate. Priced at £24 per month, customers will enjoy access to Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max. This bundle aims to provide value by consolidating multiple streaming platforms under one subscription. Additionally, subscribers to the Ultimate TV plan will gain access to over 130 premium channels, including Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.

Moreover, Sky Cinema customers will benefit from a new Disney movie channel directly integrated into the TV guide.

The £24 bundle encompasses:
– Netflix Standard with Ads
– Disney+ Standard with Ads (effective March)
– HBO Max Basic with Ads (launching on March 26)
– Hayu (available from July, with select content accessible from March)
– Over 130 Sky channels

This move suggests a strategic shift in the TV and streaming landscape, offering consumers more choices and conveniences in accessing entertainment content.
