Virgin Media has announced a forthcoming upgrade for select broadband customers who are still using older Hub 3 and Hub 4 routers. The upgrade will provide these customers with the more advanced Hub 5 router at no additional cost. The Hub 5 features Wi-Fi 6 technology for faster and more reliable connections compared to the older models.
Eligible customers will be notified by email in the coming weeks and months, with the upgrade set to be completed gradually by 2026. Virgin Media highlighted that the Hub 5 comes equipped with Wi-Fi 6 technology and seven internal antennas to enhance coverage throughout the home.
If you qualify for the upgrade, Virgin Media will contact you directly, removing the need for any immediate action on your part. You can also verify your eligibility by logging into your My Virgin Media account online.
Upgrading to the Hub 5 router can significantly enhance your broadband experience, offering wider Wi-Fi coverage, improved stability, and the ability to support future updates. Additionally, the Hub 5 is designed to handle faster Gig1 speeds, resulting in quicker downloads and streaming capabilities. For instance, Gig1 speeds enable users to download a full HD movie in under 40 seconds, which is more than 10 times faster than the UK average.
Wi-Fi 6 is the latest wireless networking technology, providing faster speeds, greater efficiency, and improved performance in busy environments. It can accommodate more connected devices simultaneously, offering enhanced performance across both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Wi-Fi 6 is also energy-efficient, making it ideal for modern households with multiple connected devices and high data requirements. While even better Wi-Fi 7 technology is now available, Wi-Fi 6 remains suitable for the average user.
