Anthony Joshua Injured in Fatal Car Crash: State Governments Issue Statement

The Ogun and Lagos State Governments have issued a joint statement concerning the recent car accident involving Anthony Joshua in Nigeria. The former heavyweight champion sustained minor injuries in a collision that tragically resulted in the deaths of two individuals.

In response to the incident, both state governments officially confirmed that Anthony Joshua was involved in a road traffic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The vehicle carrying a team of four collided with a stationary truck, leading to the fatalities. The governments expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for strength during this difficult time.

Following the accident, Anthony Joshua and another passenger received immediate medical attention at a specialized facility in Lagos. Medical assessments indicated that both individuals are in stable condition and do not require emergency medical intervention at present. A dedicated medical team is overseeing their care, with Joshua maintaining consciousness and staying in contact with his family.

The Ogun and Lagos State Governments are closely monitoring the situation to ensure that the affected individuals receive optimal medical assistance. Concurrently, investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident have commenced. The governments have requested privacy for Anthony Joshua and his family while appreciating the public’s concern.

The statement was jointly signed by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Media to the Governor of Ogun State, and Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Information and Strategy for Lagos State.

The accident involved Anthony Joshua traveling in a black Lexus Jeep that collided with a parked lorry on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria reported that two vehicles were involved, resulting in two fatalities, one injury, and two individuals escaping unharmed. Anthony Joshua, although injured, was rescued alive from the scene.

Preliminary findings from the authorities suggest that the Lexus Jeep may have been speeding and lost control during an overtaking maneuver, leading to the collision with the stationary truck.
